Handwriting
In Year 2 the objectives for Children's' handwriting are as follows (in child form):
In school the children are focussing on their handwriting more and more. We complete 3 x 15 minute sessions a week learning the correct joins and they are expected to begin to apply this in their writing. We are also learning to sit in the writing position and have perfect pencil grip.
I understand this can be quite difficult to help with at home but it would be appreciated if they could practise a few times a week if possible. This can be done in their homework (when completing a comprehension or writing some answers to questions posed after reading), writing sentences using the weekly spelling words or by doing some free writing.
To help with this I have attached the line guides that we use in school along with other useful resources and the website that can be used to help show the children how to form/join letters. There are also lots of other resources on the website too.
- When I write, my letters are the same size.
- I can write letters and numbers that are the right way round and the right size.
- I know where to leave spaces between my words.
- I am learning which letters to join and which ones are best left unjoined.
